# Custom Object Types

Custom Object Types let you create arbitrary types with user-defined fields.

To work with Custom Objects, you will need to:

1. Create a
   [Custom Object Type](https://developer.close.com/api/resources/custom-object-types/list).
2. Add one or more
   [Custom Object Custom Fields](https://developer.close.com/api/resources/custom-fields/custom-fields-custom-object/list)
   to that type or associate a
   [Shared Custom Field](https://developer.close.com/api/resources/custom-fields/custom-fields-shared/list) with
   it.
3. Once the Custom Object Type is defined, create and manage
   [Custom Object instances](https://developer.close.com/api/resources/custom-objects/list)
   on Leads.
