The distinction between group and personal phone numbers is being retired. When that happens, selecting a number type when renting a number will no longer be necessary. The field is now optional, and when it is omitted it defaults to personal. No action is required. Requests that still send sharing continue to work today. In particular, you must still pass group if you want to create a group phone number.
